History & Origin of Sapphire<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sapphire Crystal is a variety of Corundum and was first reported in 1747 by J.G. Wallerius. He named the stone \u201cSapphirus\u201d, meaning \u201cblue stone\u201d referring to the color of the mineral. Although reported in 1747, Sapphire has been traced back to being used 2500 years ago by the Etruscans.<\/p>\n

Sapphire was also considered a stone of royalty by Ancient Rome, Greek, and Egyptian civilizations.<\/p>\n

Sapphire is traditionally thought to be dark blue. But it comes in a variety of colors such as blue, violet, white, pink, yellow, black, green, and orange. Each color pigment is due to a different metal occuring throughout the Sapphire. Blue Sapphires pigment is due to iron and titanium; Violet Sapphire consists of vanadium; yellow and green Sapphires have a low iron count; Pink Sapphire is produced by chrome.<\/p>\n

The only color variant Sapphire can not be seen as is red because red Corundum is Ruby.<\/p>\n

Blue Sapphire<\/strong><\/h2>\n
