It is one of the 3 major sources of naturally occurring iron here on Earth. <a href=\"https:\/\/thecrystalcouncil.com\/crystals\/hematite\">Hematite<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thecrystalcouncil.com\/crystals\/goethite\">Goethite<\/a> being the other 2. It can crystallize in many forms. Most notably as a mass or cubic occurrence. But also as botryoidal and even pseudomorphs.<\/p><p>Secondary minerals replacing a crystal\u2019s original compound; the word translates to \u201cfalse form\u201d. This is especially common on <a href=\"https:\/\/thecrystalcouncil.com\/crystals\/pyrite\">Pyrite<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thecrystalcouncil.com\/crystals\/garnet\">Garnet.<\/a> But can occur on a variety of different minerals.<\/p><p>Limonite is a very common mineral. It can be found throughout the world. Major deposits located in Austria, France, Australia, the United States, Brazil, and the ancient island of Cyprus.<\/p><p>Limonite has it\u2019s uses traced back over 4,000 years, while its first believed usage being yellow, brown, and red pigment. Neolithic cave paintings have proven that to be true and can be found throughout the world.<\/p><h2><strong>Goethite vs. Limonite<\/strong><\/h2><p>Limonite and Goethite are very similar in color, shape, and formation. One major indicator to look for is the color. With these minerals, the depth of their hues are determined by the amount of iron within each specimen. Limonite is more brown and orange. It can even occur as a red earthy color (similar to that of clay).<\/p><p>Goethite however, is usually silver, black, grey, and even metallic. When it comes to the way they occur, it&#8217;s very similar, but their structure could not look more different.<\/p><p>As Limonite is most notably found in mass, botryoidal or pseudomorph form. It often lacks cleavage and detail on the surface. Goethite is found as Botryoidal (and commonly pseudomorph).<\/p><p>But will resemble Hematite before one\u2019s mind will compare it to Limonite. It also can be seen in a bladed formation, closely resembling raw <a href=\"https:\/\/thecrystalcouncil.com\/crystals\/scolecite\">Scolecite<\/a>.<\/p><h2><strong>Meaning &amp; Energy<\/strong><\/h2><p>Limonite holds us close to Mother Earth and provides the necessary strength needed to move forward during situations of stress and overwhelming anxiety.
