Indonesia Palm Wood Crystal, also known as Palmoxylon. It is Petrified Wood<\/a> believed to be from trees 20-40 million years ago. It is known as the Oligocene Epoch. This slow petrification process took place when volcanic activity filled the atmosphere over this region. This caused the land to be filled with ash.<\/p>\n

The protective layer of soot allowed the wood to be replaced by microcrystalline Quartz<\/a> and silica. It was naturally carried through underground waterways.<\/p>\n

This transformation process of a natural chemical composition change within a stone or biologic is known as a pseudomorph. In this case, the wood has become a member of the chalcedony family with a hardness of 6.5-7.<\/p>\n
