Science & Origin of Himekawa Yakuseki<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Himekawa Yakuseki Crystal, also known as Hokutolite, is a variety of barite. It is a lead stone that crystallizes in mass formation. The stone is predominantly full of Barium, with trace amounts of radium and thorium levels.<\/p>\n

These elements are radioactive but are only small impurities within the stone which is safe to handle. The age of this mineral is believed to be over 65 million years and is indicated by Rhyolite which has been dated within the stone.<\/p>\n

Himekawa Yakuseki was first discovered in 1898 by Hirosaburo Sakurai and in 1905 by Okamoto Yohachiro. They are formed from hot springs with only 2 known localities, the Beitou Hot Spring in Taipei City, Taiwan, and the Tamagawa Hot Spring in Akita Prefecture, Japan.<\/p>\n

The name is derived from Hokuto, the Japanese name for Beitou, and lite, the English rock classification suffix. These are both protected sites by the Japanese and Taiwanese governments.<\/p>\n
