But can also be found nearly all black. It is one of the most popular members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thecrystalcouncil.com\/crystals\/quartz\">Quartz<\/a> family.<\/p><p>It comes from the medieval Latin word Corneolus which is in reference to the Cornelian cherry, a plant species native to southern Europe.<\/p><p>Carnelian can be found all over the world, with civilizations throughout history proving that to us today!<\/p><p>Most of the Carnelian specimens on the market come out of Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and India.<\/p><h2><strong>Carnelian Vs. Sard<\/strong><\/h2><p>Carnelian and Sard are nearly identical, with Sard being the harder and darker in color of the two. It seems that the names arise from different cultures discovering and naming this stone.<\/p><p>However, both terms are still used today. There is no exact defining characteristic of the two, generally though, the rougher and denser pieces of this Chaledoney are referred to as Sard.<\/p><h2><strong>Historical Uses<\/strong><\/h2><p>Carnelian has been one of the most widely used stones throughout history from Napoleon to the Prophet Muhammed. In Egyptian times, the deceased would be adorned with a Carnelian necklace symbolizing the Blood of Isis and their protection into the afterlife.<\/p><p>During the Japanese Iron Age (300 A.D.) the deceased were found with Carnelian amulets around their necks. The 29th chapter of the book of the dead in Egypt is notably inscribed in a tablet of Carnelian.<\/p><p>Both Napoleon I and II wore a seal of Carnelian during their ruling. Furthermore, the prophet Muhammed was said to have worn a ring of Carnelian on the little finger of his right hand.<\/p><p>There is a reason why Carnelian has been used for so long and by so many different cultures.
