Blue Onyx: A variety of Onyx. It is a type of Chalcedony, that crystallizes in the form of blue, white, and brown-banded masses. Just like Blue Chalcedony, its color is caused by what we refer to as the “Tyndall Effect” which occurs when light scatters from colloid-sized particles.

The highest-quality Blue Onyx is found in Argentina, while most other commercial deposits are found in Mexico.

Blue Onyx is a very durable and easily carvable stone that results in a stunning product. It is nearly impossible to find Blue Onyx in raw formation as it is highly desired by manufacturers.

You can find many shapes of Blue Onyx at national gem shows, as well as exquisite carvings that can sell for close to five figures
