Science & Origin of Hazu Tonalite

Hazu Tonalite Crystal is an igneous rock from the Hazu region of Japan. It is found near the Niyodo River in the Kochi Prefecture. Tonalite is composed of Biotite, Amphibole, Plagioclase, and Quartz. It has with minor inclusions of Feldspar, Titanite, Ilmenite, Magnetite, Pyrite, Zircon, and Apatite.

The color is a dark grey to black and is used as a garden stone in Japanese culture. Mining and collection of this stone is prohibited. It can only be acquired from older stock that was gathered before it was illegal to do so.
